Franklin
Tucked into the west-central corner of Georgia along the Alabama border, Franklin is the heart of Heard County—a quiet, rural community steeped in Southern history and a deep sense of place. Formed in 1830 from portions of Carroll, Coweta, and Troup counties, Heard County was named after Revolutionary War hero and former Georgia governor Stephen Heard. Franklin, named in honor of Benjamin Franklin, became the county seat and remains its historic and cultural center, home to the Old Jail Museum, operated by the Heard County Historical Society, which preserves the region’s colorful and sometimes quirky past.
Today, Franklin is home to excellent local schools—including the newly built Heard County High School—and offers a mix of rural charm and a laid back lifestyle. Residents enjoy community events, strong school spirit, and a supportive environment for raising a family or settling into retirement. Whether you’re looking for land, a charming home, or simply a place where neighbors still know your name, Franklin offers a grounded and welcoming place to call home—where history is honored, and the pace of life lets you breathe.
